Old Crew Outriggers Join in Scrap Drive

Newell Boat House Strips; Other Buildings to Follow

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A heap of miscellaneous junk from Newell Boathouse is the University's latest contribution to the scrap drive. The buildings around Cambridge are being stripped, and have already yielded tons of the metal. This latest donation should produce about 250 pounds.

Included in the pile were parts of motors from launches, pulleys, wires, and other outworn equipment. Largest single item was a collection of crimson-painted outriggers, which had no doubt seen service on Varsity shells at one time.

Few visible objects around the College have disappeared, such as the fence around Memorial Hall, or the filigree on Adams House. But at the weekly conferences in Cambridge, Harvard is recorded as doing its share. Contributions from students have not yet been forthcoming, however, though the officials in Washington are stating that schools and colleges are mines for useful war materials.
