Hoping to assemble a pep rally of its own, the Varsity Club has chosen October 23, the evening before the Army game, to hold its annual dinner at the Club House. Toastmaster at the dinner, which is to be held at 7:30 o'clock, will be William M. Rand '09, former track captain, intercollegiate hurdler, and member of the American Olympic Team.
Among the University alumni scheduled to speak will be James P. Baxter, now president of Williams College. Baxter was formerly a professor of History and master of Adams House. Having spent several weeks in Britain during the past summer, and thus having witnessed the effects of the British war effort, he will speak on "England in War Time."
Hayes to Speak
Colonel Philip Hayes, chief of staff of the First Service Command and professor of Military Science and Tactics here last year, by comparing military tactics and the tactics on the football field, will discuss the relationship of athletics with war. General Douglas MacArthur was in command at West Point when Colonel Hayes was director of athletics, and Colonel Hayes is expected to include reminiscences of their friendship.
Other speakers will be Richard C. Harlow, head coach of football, Donald Forte '43, captain of the football team, and Richard C. Floyd '10, president of the Club, who will be master of ceremonies.
