Auxiliary Fire Dept. Adds Fifty Students

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Almost 50 men responded to the Auxiliary Fire Department's urgent call for more fire-fighters, as a result of last week's House-to-House recruiting drive. Close to 75 Harvard volunteers are now serving as reserves for the Cambridge Fire Department.

Although Fire Chief Herman E. Gutheim has expressed a need for 1000 firemen, he fully realizes that the number of men available for civilian defense work is definitely limited. Chief Gutheim hopes that additional men from the pre-draft group will be available in the near future.

With regular firemen and auxiliaries being rapidly taken into the Service, the problem of maintaining a sufficient fire-fighting force is becoming increasingly difficult.
