In a preliminary meeting of the swimming team, 120 students, both Freshmen and Upperclassmen, turned out yesterday to reserve Instructions for fall practice. Coach Hal Ulen described the training the mermen will receive before actually taking to the water.
Conditioning exercises will be given for the first month of practice to toughen the swimmers for the coming aquatic season. After the dry land training, swimming practice, lasting for an hour and a half each afternoon, will help to whip the team into shape for its meets, the first of which is with M.I.T. on December 16.
As in most sports, 46'ers will be allowed to try out for the Varsity team. In addition, there will be a Jayvee team which will contend against similar squads of other colleges.
