Leverett, Lowell Lead Houses in Basketball

First Half of Tournament Ends in Two-Team Deadlock

In the most important of the four House basketball games played yesterday afternoon, Leverett defeated Winthrop 13 to 8 and Lowell nosed out Kirkland 21 to 19 to place the two winners in a tie for first place.

"Speed" Clark led the Bellboys in the scoring department, helping them to keep their slight lead to the close of the game. Howie Ezell was high scorer for Kirkland.

The game between the Puritans and the Bunnies was one of the tightest defensive games of the season as the low score of 13 to 8 indicates.

Holtan Stars for Gold Coast

Adams ran up a big total of points in trouncing Dunster 35 to 21. Little Ray Holtan, whom his teammates have dubbed the "bucket" because of his unusual shooting ability with either hand, led the Gold Coasters with 17 points. A newcomer to the Adams House squad, Bill Jones, played an excellent defensive game, holding Dunster's star, Bergman, to much less than his usual number of points.

With only four men showing up, Eliot was forced to default to Dudley.

Yesterday's games were the last ones to be played until February, when the second half of the inter-House basketball competition will begin. Lowell and Leverett are in first place, followed closely by Winthrop and Kirkland.
