Navy Seeks 350 Students To Enlist in Supply Corps

A. James Casner, professor of Law and head of the Student Defense Service Committee, released yesterday an announcement from the chief of the Bureau of Navigation which gives details for enlistment in the Supply Corps of the United States Naval Reserve. The release is as follows:

The Chief of the Bureau of Navigation has authorized a procurement program for 350 applicants in the United States to be appointed probationary ensigns, Supply Corps, United States Naval Reserve, ensign SCV (P) U.S.N.R.

It is intended to order those appointed to active duty for a course of instruction at the Naval Supply Corps School, Graduate School of Business Administration, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, at various intervals commencing July 1, 1942. Those student officers successfully completing the course will then be further assigned to duty wherever ordered. Those who fail will be discharged. Preliminary applications for men qualified to apply for this training may be obtained from Professor Casner at University Hall 20 on Friday, January 23 from 2 to 5 o'clock. No appointment is necessary. The preliminary application blanks will be given only to men qualified as follows:

1. Graduates of an accredited college or University who majored in Economics or Business Administration, and Seniors who are majoring in Economics or Business Administration and will receive a degree not later than June 30, 1942.

2. Age--19 to 26.

3. Citizens of the United States for at least 10 years.

4. At least 66 inches in height and not more than 76 inches.

5. Must weigh at least 132 pounds.

6. Must have at least 20 of own teeth in sound condition. No cavities. At least four of these teeth must be opposing molars, two on each side of the mouth, Malocclusion, or marked over-bite, is disqualifying.

7. Eyes, 12/20 vision in each eye unaided and any deficiency below 20/20 corrected by proper fitting glasses.

8. Must have absolute color perception.

Waivers for physical defects or substitutes for educational requirements will not be considered.

The preliminary application blanks filled out by students will be graded with respect to the scholastic record of the student and with respect to whether the student is officer material. Preliminary applications will then be forwarded to the Navy and formal applications and instructions will be mailed to the students selected.
