Crimson Quintet Second in Ivy League; Bunks Burditt Tops Scorers With 26 Points

Lutz, Webber High In Individual Totals

By Bill Elser

When the smoke and surprise of last week's Ivy League openers had cleared away, the Crimson five found itself runner-up in the Eastern Basketball League and also possessor of another honor it has not held in the last few years. George "Bunks" Burditt, as a result of his 21 points against the Big Green and his 5 points against the Big Red, leads the league in individual scoring, 8 points ahead of his nearest rivals.

Although held to five points by the Cornell squad, the rangy Sophomore turned the tables completely on Big Jim Olsen, Dartmouth's six feet, five inch center, and dropped in ten twin-pointers and a free throw for the highest individual game total of the season for the Crimson. He played the full forty minutes, the only player to do so for the Cantabs.

His nearest competitors are Yale's Bud Kearney and Cornell's Bill Stewart, each with a total of eighteen points. Kearney's eighteen markers came in a losing cause against the Big Red, his only league game this season, while Stewart has played both the Crimson and the Blue.

Lutz and Webber Up There

Close behind the leaders comes another of Coach Brown's men, the Crimson's clever ball handler, "Chick" Lutz, with 16 points. His forward mate, Billy Webber, also stands well up in the list with 15 markers.

Other statistics show that the home force leads in the number of free throws, with twelve, two more than Cornell or Dartmouth. Total points give the Crimson 76, 6 less than the Big Red.

Next game for Coach Brown's players will not be until February 7, when oddly enough, they again meet the Indians, this time at Hanover. Tomorrow two more league members will see their first action when the Columbia Lions move to New Haven and the Quakers of Penn invade New Hampshire to face the Big Green.

Saturday will see Cornell at Dartmouth for a highly important match. Should the Ithacans upset Coach Ozzie Cowles five, the Indians' chances to overtake the Big Red will be greatly dimmed. The Elis will jouney to Pennsylvania on the same day for what may well be a fight for the cellar position as neither team is rated very highly in league competition. Princeton, taking time out for exams, will not play until January 31.
