NEW YORK--After five round of deliberate stalking, heavyweight Joe Louis exploded a straight right punch on Lou Nova's chin that blasted the California challenger's dreams and readled him for the technical knockout that came one second before the end of the sixth round in their title fight at the Polo Grounds tonight.
The champion's punch dropped Nova backwards to the canvas and half through the ropes. The game challenger rose at the count of nine and Louis was after him, battering him from corner to corner until Referee Arthur Donevan Intervened at 2,59 of the sixth round.
Though Nova's handlers were demanding that the bout be continued, Dr. William H. Walker, the Commission physician, examined the challenger's cuts about the nose and eyes and deeded that he would be unable to continue.
