After battling on even terms for four hours yesterday, the Varsity tennis team finally had to be content with a 4 1/2 to 4 1/2 deadlock with Williams as the number one doubles match was called off on account of darkness.
Jim Jenkins the star of the match, played one of his steadiest matches of the season in overcoming flashy Purpleman Wilson Barnes in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Jenkins, although behind three love in the last set, used his steadiness to capture six straight games and the match.
The other two singles winners for the Crimson were Orme Wilson at the number four spot and Aubrey Gould at number six, Wilson conquered his opponent, McKown 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, while Gould defeated Hemphill 6-2, 7-5.
Russ Ellis, at number two, dropped his match to Collins, Captain Sonny Lyell, at the third slot, lost to Larned; while Howie Esell dropped a long close three-set affair to Reade in the fifth singles match.
Ellis and Wilson teamed up to win the second doubles from Hemphill and Hendrie in three sets while Gould and Daniels were losing to Larned and Reade in an equally close match. The number one doubles between Lyell and Peabody and Collins and Barnes was tied at two all in the third set when darkness prevented further play.
