Yardlings Discover Fire Inside Holden Chapel

Fire in Desk Not Noticed As Watchman Locked Up

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

To the scream of sirens, seven fire trucks invaded the Yard last night in response to an alarm sent in by Paul B. Akin '44 upon the discovery of a fire in Holden Chapel.

"When I passed the building earlier in the evening," Akin said, "I saw a group of persons leaving, one of whom were a Greek helmet, another a turban, and a third carried a spear." He and three of his friends noticed the fire during a bull session in Mower Hall.

After the fire was over and the crowd had dispersed, a committee composed of a proctor and two Yard cops investigated and deduced that it had started in a drawer of a desk at about 8:30 o'clock and had not been noticed when the building was closed up at 10 o'clock.

Several members of the Smoker Committee were seen hauling around the fire, and, when questioned, they readily admitted that they had arranged the whole affair as a publicity stunt to interest Yardlings.
