Washington Bulletin Defers Medical Men

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

University quarters who have been following President Conant's request that scientific students be deferred from military duty are pleased to hear the memorandum issued at Washington recently ordering deferment of "all men who promise to be acceptable medical doctors."

Approximately 9000 physicians and surgeons are now needed in military service, according to the memorandum. If medical students are to be called to active duty, the article continued, there will be no future source from which physicians and surgeons may be drawn.

All local draft boards, the bulletin concluded, are requested to make certain that the quota of military doctors has been satisfied before calling a medical student for army duty.
