THREE LOSSES FOR STICKMEN

Hampered by lack of good pre-season practice and crippled by injuries, Coach Dick Snibbe's Varsity lacrosse team lost its three games to Penn, Maryland, and Navy respectively on its recent trip to the south which it regularly makes every spring vacation.

Star of the trip was Goalie George lianford, who put a crimp in every attack he met. Making seemingly impossible saves in each of the three games, he shone in the Maryland contest when for three of the four periods he held Maryland's vaunted team at bay.

The initial game was the Penn, and it was the first time this season that the team had scrimmaged on a regulation field. Despite this the stickmen led during the first half and only went down to defeat by a score of 5 to 2. Bill Ierardi was injured in this foray after doing extremely well at midfield.

Lack of good reserves was the reason for the beating which the Crimson team took in its second contest at the hands of Maryland. Through the spectacular play of George Hanford, who continued to play despite a back injury, Maryland was held during the first half but scored nine goals in the second half to win by the overwhelming margin of 14 to 2.

The third game, which was with Navy, was the Maryland game in reverse. Still showing the effects of the last half of the Maryland game, the team let the midshipment score six goals in the first period and four in the second. In the last half the stickmen tightened up, however, and the final score was 12 to 0.
