With a total of one win and three losses, and holding a rain check against Penn, the Varsity baseballers have come back from their spring trip to the not-so-sunny South on the short end of the score sheet, but are improved by practice and hopeful, for a good future in league competition.
Coach Floyd Stahl, who led his team on the annual tour, commended the work of the infield, which he considers the best unit of the team, and of pitchers Bud Waldstein, Charlie Brackett, and Jack Schwede, who are the leaders in a mound department which has turned out to be slightly below par. It is in the outfield that the Crimson can expect most of its troubles, if past performances is any indication at all of their strength.
Hampered by the early date at which most of its opponents were able to take to the diamond, Stahl's ball club outdid itself by holding Georgetown one of the best teams in the East, to a 7-4 count.
None of the games were a part of regular league competition, with the exception of the rained out Penn game, which will turn up later in the season as half of a twin bill. Next on the list of games is the contest with Army this Saturday, and on Monday formal league play begins when the team takes on Boston University.
The scores were:
Maryland 5 Harvard 3
Harvard 1 George Washington 0
Navy 7 Harvard 6
Georgetown 7 Harvard 4
