Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
Picked as the representatives of the major fields of concentration, 21 Juniors have been selected for the Student Council's recently-formed Permanent Committee on Tenure and Curriculum by Eugene D. Keith '42, chairman of the Committee, and a board of assistants.
The names of the Juniors, who were nominated on a basis of scholastic attainments and interest in the problems of education, must be submitted to the Council for ratification at its meeting next week, but ratification is expected to be a mere formality.
The Committee will serve in the important position of a go-between, representing the needs of the undergraduates to the University in all questions of education.
This function has never been filled by any body before the formation of the Committee. The Council was prompted to form such a board by the-need for some means of representing to the Administration the needs of the students, especially in the important question of tenure and the selection of teachers for permanent appointment.
Study Budget Cuts
One of the first jobs to be undertaken by the Committee, according to Keith, is an investigation of the effects on teaching standards of the ten per cent budget cut imposed on the departments by the University for next year. This investigation will get under way before the end of the year.
The Committee is composed entirely of Juniors so that it can continue intact next year without being broken up by graduations.
The following Juniors have been named:
Anthropology: Judson T. Shaplin; Biology: Benjamin H. Landing. Jr.; Bio-Chemistry: Robert A. Keller; Chemistry: Melvin Fields, Jr.; Classics: Howard C. Bennett, Jr.;
Economics: Eil Goldston; Engineering Sciences, William F. Rottschaefer; English: Marvin G. Barrett; Fine Arts: Thomas B.A. Godfrey; Geological Sciences: Benjamin F. Whitehill;
