BUNNIES TRIUMPH IN SPORTS OPENER

A bitter pitchers' battle in the softball league between Bill Brown of Dunster and Jim Monkman of Leverett featured the start of the spring schedule in House athletics yesterday. Late into the afternoon the struggle went on, but a clean single by Hank Maxwell in the last half of the final seventh inning scored Rog Cresman from seventh to give the Leverett stalwarts a narrow 23 to 22 decision.

Leverett's ten runs in the second inning and Dunster's eight in the seventh were attributed to shaky support. Lowell won from Winthrop by default when the Puritans failed to muster a team.

Two one-sided victories were recorded in the opening House golf matches. Leverett defeated Eliot 8 to 1, and a strong Lowell team rolled over Adams, 9 to 0. The Bunnies accomplished a clean sweep for the day by defeating Lowell in tennis, 4 to 2. Adams defeated Winthrop in that sport, 5 to 2.
