Open Track Handicap Will Commence Today

Rain or shine Jaako Mikkola's University Track and Field Handicaps will be run off this afternoon and tomorrow. From Freshmen to graduate students, veteran and novice cindermen will participate in the two day program in the Harvard Stadium. Over 135 entries will contest the 15 specialties.

The field events will commence at 1:30 o'clock today with the hammer throw. The dash and distance events are planned for tomorrow.

This intra-mural meet, which has become the traditional curtain raiser of Crimson outdoor track seasons, offers every student in the University the opportunity to challenge all comers aided by an equalizing handicap based on past performances and potential appearances. In addition Coach Mikkole can both size up the qualifications of his competing track men and keep his eye open for hidden talent.

Each contest will be run off on schedule with both heats and finals if the turnout requires it. The Stadium will be open to the public without charge, and the exact times of events can be found in the Notice Column.

Leading the field of hammer tossers in the opening event is Sophomore Bob Chase. Tom Lacy and Chase are favored in the following javelin event. Mike Ford's 13 feet leads the vaulting field, while John Bunker with 6 feet one inch is the top high jumper of the meet.

In the broad jump Dave Ives' 22 feet 9 inches at the Yale meet is closely followed by Freshman Bob Gillette's past efforts. Dick Pfister is favored both in the discus and shot put
