University policy in regard to future athletic contests with anti-Negro colleges will be clarified next Monday night at a meeting of the Committee on the Regulation of Athletic Sports.
This was announced yesterday by Director of Athletics William J. Bingham '16, chairman of the Committee, composed of representatives of undergraduates, faculty, administration, and alumni, which controls Harvard athletic policy.
Until Monday night, Bingham explained, he can make no statement of future plans because he is not empowered to make any such decisions of policy.
Decided Upon Monday
The question, brought up by the action of the H. A. A. in refusing to let a colored member of the Varsity lacrosse team take part in a game with the U. S. Naval Academy during the spring vacation, is certain to be deliberated by the Committee at that time.
Only development in the situation on the part of the University yesterday was a meeting of the Undergraduate Athletic Council, composed of representative members of the major and minor sports and possessed of the power of advising the Committee on Athletics.
The Council discussed the question of policy with Bingham last night but declined to comment on any conclusions they may have reached since their function is purely advisory and, therefore, confidential.
The Committee on the Regulation of Athletic Sports is composed of Bingham; Dean Hanford; Arlie V. Bock, Henry K. Oliver Professor of Hygiene; William L. Langer, Coolidge Professor of History; David O. Ives '41, captain of the soccer team; Sherman Gray '41, captain of the varsity crew; Lincoln Clark '41, representative of House sports; George Whitney '07; William Edmunds '00; and Charles C. Buell '23.
