1944 PROPOSES FEE TO SWELL SMOKER FUNDS

Deprived of $200 of their usual $300 subsidy from the Student Council, the Freshman Smoker Committee has decided to resort to other means to make the 1944 Smoker an affair second to none, and will conduct a poll in the Union on Monday to determine whether the Yardlings are Willing to dig into their pockets and shell out a 25 or 35 cent admission fee for entrance to their orgy.

"We are trying to give the Freshman the best smoker we can," said Austin B. Mason, Jr. '44, chairman of the Smoker Committee, "and it is only common sense that we can have a better show if we charge a small fee. The poll Monday will tell."

No New Appointees

No additional men have been appointed to the Smoker Committee, but Mason said last night that he intended to add two more to his group later in the month when he discovers just what sort of ability he needs.

The present Smoker Committee follows: Austin B. Mason, Jr., chairman, David B. Arnold, Jr., Leon A. Danco, Jr., John D. Eusden, Robert W. Gillette, Paul D. Grindle, Thomas T. Hoffman, and George A. Saxton, Jr.

The members of the Jubilee Committee are: Andrew W. Welch, Jr., chairman, A. Roy Atherton, Malcolm H. Brodrick, E. Thayer Drake, 3rd, Brooks E. Health, James J. Higgenson, Edward H. Mahoney, John F. Otto, Jr., J. Robert Moskin and Donald Harting.
