Naval Reserve activities have called John W. Lowes '20, financial vice-president, to serve as executive officer of the patrol gunboat St. Augustine for the duration of the national emergency.
Lowes' highly varied career in the last war makes him an old hand at military service. Leaving college at the end of his Sophomore year, he was successively engaged in the American Ambulance Service of the French Army, as a cadet in the Royal Flying Corps, and finally in the United States Field Artillery.
Duties on board the St. Augustine have forced Lowes to take a temporary leave of absence from his position here, but he will be able to continue his work intermittently, and there will be no resulting changes in the Administration.
