Jack Barnaby guides his Varsity squash squad into deep water this weekend with matches at Penn and Princeton this afternoon and tomorrow.
The Tigers will give the courtmen, undefeated in intercollegiate competition this season, their most difficult test to date. Penn is not so potent an opponent but Coach Barnaby would not venture any predictions. He only commented, "I have a lot of confidence in the team but you can never tell about new courts."
Victories over Dartmouth by 8 to 1 and Williams by 9 to 0, an improved first string, and a substantial reserve strength bolster the expectations of the racquet-wielders from Cambridge. The nine men who are wearing the Crimson for the weekend's battles are southpaw Gene Nickerson, Sonny Lyell, Galen Felt Stretch Baker (six feet seven in his stocking feet). Captain Don Marvin, Decker Orr, Sandy Parker, Dud Palmer, and Doug Cochrane.
Although Princeton has never been able to defeat Harvard in a formal match, their hopes are high. Winner of the Intercollegiates during Christmas vacation, Charles Brinton ranks number one on the Tiger team. Sophomore Johnny Humes, whom Brinton defeated in the finals, is number two man, and if recovered from a recent injury, Stan Pearson, who won the Intercollegiates two years ago, will also be in the lineup.
