8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
Rear Admiral Harry E. Yarnell, U.S.N. Retired, will address the largest Naval Science Smoker of recent years to be held tonight at the Harvard Club. Speaking off the record, Admiral Yarnell will tell of his experiences in the Far East when he was Commander of the Asiatic Fleet.
Other speakers will be President Conant and Robert H. Hallowell '96, of the Naval Science Visiting Committee of the Board of Overseers.
Before the smoker, a buffet supper will be served to about 275 people and a private dinner will be held for the 21 guests, who include Admiral Tarrant, Commandant of the 1st Naval District, Admiral Cluverius, president of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, captains of the Yale, Holy Cross, and Tufts N.R.O.T.C. units, and Colonel Henry T. Jay, head of Military Science, Charles Francis Adams, and the Captain of H.M.S. Newcastle.
The "Harvard Naval Bulletin," a magazine published six times a year by the embryo ensigns, is sponsoring the smoker. Head of the committee that planned the affair is David M. Ewing '42, editor of the "Bulletin." Other members of the committee are Peter Black '42, John L. Lacey '42, treasurer of the magazine, and William M. Wood '42, who was in charge of the entertainment.
