Freshmen Also Swim Engineers Tonight

M.I.T. invades the Indoor Athletic Building tonight at 7:30 o'clock, and Coach Hal Ulen's Varsity and Freshmen swimmers are looking forward to pinning back the ears of the Boilermakers. The Varsity meet starts at 8:45 o'clock.

Whether the Yardling swimmers will do particularly well is a meet point, because M.I.T. has come up with the best Freshman swimming squad in its history. But that the Varsity will have the situation well in hand throughout the evening appears to be a pretty good guess. In their only encounter this season, the Tech Varsity went down to a lopsided defeat at the hands of a mediocre Lord Jeff squad from Amherst, and exactly the same story should repeat itself tonight.

McCutcheon Will Not Dive

The Crimson squad is not up to its full strength, for Shaw McCutcheon, Ulen's ace diver, will not be able to compete. Wendell Smith will take McCutcheon's place, but it seems at this point that M.I.T. has the dive fairly well sewed up. The Techmen are already strong in this event, and the "McCutcheon handicap" should just about do the trick.

Tech is also fairly strong in the sprints, but Captain Harris, John Eusden et al should have little difficulty in nullifying this threat.

Since the season is still in its infancy and tonight's opposition not too potent Hal will probably try to do as much experimenting as possible. But from this seat it looks as though Bus Curwen and Tiny German will take care of the distances, Bill Drucker and Al Mathis will hold down the back stroke, Tony Myrer and Don Harting will constitute the breast stroke combination, while butterfly artist Sandy Houston and the various sprinters will be used in the medley and free style relays.

Captain Dick Harris, John Eusden, Tony Myrer, Dave Barnes and Bus Curwen are in for two very busy nights, as these five Crimson tankmen, in addition to this evening's meet, are scheduled to swim against a group of good will students from South America in an exhibition match to be held at the Brookline High School pool tomorrow night at 8 o'clock under the auspices of Larry Johnson, national A.A.U. swimming chairman.
