With the recommendation from the proctors already in his hands, Douglas Mercer '40, Secretary of the Union, has set in motion the machinery for choosing the Union Committee, administration organ of the Freshman Class.
Announcement of the Committee, which usually includes 12 members, will be published Monday morning. One man with an out-of-house residence, the Captain of the '45 football team, the Chairman of the Redbook, and a Yardling who lives in Apley, Walker, or Farlow will have seats on the Committee along with representatives from most of the Freshman halls.
The Union Committee attempts to be representative of all groups in the Yard and will include a mid-westerner or two along with men from the Eastern prep schools. Appointments are based on achievements in preparatory school, popularity with the students, and executive ability.
