Lowell Tops Claverly As Deacons Also Win

With all depleted on account of hour exams, Lowell extended its string of wins to six yesterday afternoon, defeating Claverly on a pass from Bill Murphy to "Cush" Eels in the second quarter, while Kirkland once again hit the victory trail in setting back the second Freshmen 6 to 0 as Willy Cleveland swept around right end for the only score of the contest.

The Bellboys met some unexpected opposition from the Clippers who put up a game fight throughout the contest. In the second quarter, however, the Claverly defense weakened just long enough to permit Bill Murphy to heave the winning points on a touchdown pass to right end "Cush" Eels. On the first play of the game, Eels dislocated a finger on his right hand but remained silent and continued the game. When he snagged the serial from Murphy, he was forced to use his arms in bringing the ball down, but he held on to it and chalked up another victory for Lowell.

Two games fill this afternoon's bill when the Elephants take on the Dunster Funsters and the Puritans tackle the Bunnies of Leverett at 3:15 o'clock, Eliot, once again out for its first win of the season, is once again the underdog in today's contest. The Funsters, although trimmed by Dudley last Tuesday, should have the drive to slap another setback on the Jumbo eleven.

Winthrop and Leverett will go at it tooth and nail in what should prove to be a hard-fought contest. With its lone victory over the cellar-dwelling Eliot outfit, the Bunnies will have to pack a little extra punch to crack the Winthrop defense and run up a winning score. The Puritans have been running first hot then cold all season, but against Leverett they ought to find themselves and come out on the long end of the score.
