Dick Gifford Chosen 1942 Soccer Captain

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Richard P. Gifford '43 of New York City and Lowell House was yesterday elected Varsity soccer captain for next fall to succeed Jack Penson.

Gifford, whom Coach Jim McDonald called the most improved player on the squad this fall, prepped at Exeter and has played soccer each of his three years at Harvard.

Despite the fact that the five foot seven power player who plays at left inside did not make the first string Varsity last season, he scored the Crimson's lone tally against Yale and a point against Brown this campaign.

In many respects Gifford's athletic career closly follows that of Don Forte who yesterday was named football captain. Both of them attended Exeter and both of them have made meteorie rises this fall. The stubby left inside outweighs Fortes by six pounds.

Announcement was also made yesterday afternoon that Earle K. Moore '43 of Kenmore, New York and Kirkland House will manage the soccer Varsity next fall. He will take the place of David Hadden '42.
