YALE EMPLOYEE'S STRIKE HALTED

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The strike which for a full 12 hours had disrupted maintenance service throughout Yale University was called off late Monday night, the disputing parties agreeing to open negotiations on November 18 to settle their differences. 450 of the University's 692 service workers picketed classrooms, laboratories, and other buildings after administration authorities had rejected a demand for a union shop under which all newly hired employees would join the union after a probationary period.

John J. Clark, organizer for the C.I.O. United Construction Workers' Organizing Committee, and Morgan R. Mooney, deputy State Labor Commissioner, agreed that grievances not cleared up in direct negotiations between the contesting parties shall be referred to the state board of mediation.
