Three Houses Approve Visitors From Devens

Three out of seven House committees have voted their approval of the plan to lodge draftees on week-end leave from Fort Devens with Harvard men, an indication that the drive will probably not meet the quick fate of the recent "share-our-showers" movement.

Final authority rests with the House Masters, who will reach a decision within the next two weeks. According to Eliot Perkins, Master of Lowell House, who is acting as leader of the movement in the houses, his colleagues favor the plan "in principle," but although the Masters urge all-out aid to the army, they do not want the plan put through at all if it is not done to the satisfaction of student and soldier.

Avoid Movies

Problems relating to entertainment, lodging, transportation, and recruiting of soldiers who want to visit Harvard are in the hands of a committee headed by Mrs. Arthur Meier Schlesinger. Students will probably amuse their guests in khaki by taking them to football games and dances, but not to movies, which are shown to the satiation point in the army camps.

Mrs. Perkins favors testing the plan at first with a small group, to determine whether or not the reaction of soldiers and students is favorable for the reason that once started, the program may not cease for many years. The three House committees that have already voted their approval represent Adams, Lowell, and Winthrop.
