For fifteen minutes yesterday afternoon the Varsity scrimmaged against a combination eleven assembled by Dick Harlow on the spur of the moment when the members of Team A, feeling fit for action, asked their mentor to give them a little unscheduled contact work.
Harlow had planned to restrict the Varsity to non-contact work until today, when the regular midweek scrimmage is to be held, but the entire first team except for the ends blow off some excess steam at the expense of the subs, as the Crimson pounded down almost the length of the field just before going in.
Fran Lee Sees Action
Any remaining doubts about the physical fitness of captain Fran Lee were dispelled when he went through the workout without ill effects. Don Forte, who was pretty well shaken up by Navy, refrained from action, and MacKinney restricted his activities to pass catching and warm-up exercises.
This is the last chance for this year's Seniors to add a Tiger skin to their collection of trophies. Two years ago Princeton emerged on the long end of a 9 to 6 count at Princeton, and last fall the two elevens fought in the rain to a scoreless tie in the Stadium, as the unfavorable conditions muffled Dave Allerdice, the visitors passing ace.
In an effort to put more life into Harvard's listless passing attack, Harlow spent considerable time on the aerial warfare department. Little Frank Swirles job for this week is the impersonation of 195 pound Bob Peters, the Tigers triple threat captain, as the Jayvees are slated to put on an exhibition of Princeton plays.
