Adams' Eleven Downs Deacons

The power and drive of Adams tipped the scales yesterday afternoon, giving the Gold Coasters a well-earned 14 to 6 win and knocking the Deacons from the ranks of the undefeated. On an adjoining field, Dudley swung into action and set back Leverett by the crushing score of 26 to 0.

With more than 200 cheering madly from the sidelines, Kirkland took the early lead midway in the second quarter. The Deacons had the ball on their own 45 when Chuck Griffith faded back to pass, changed his mind, ran to the right and, as three Adams linesmen closed in, heaved the ball 25 yards into the arms of Mac Broderick.

Deacons Lead at Half

Broderick grabbed the pass, turned, and streaked for the goal line. Only one Gold Coaster was in his path, but he was grounded when "Hot Heels" Jim Logan slammed him aside with a cross-body block. George Blanchard's kick failed to clear the bar, and as the half ended, the score stood 6 to 0 for Kirkland.

Adams waited until the fourth quarter to begin their drive. After a 15 yard penalty, Andy Muldoon tossed a 30 yard aerial to Bob Hurley, who was shoved outside on the Kirkland 12 yard stripe. With Deacon defense men Blanchard and Sandler out with injuries, Culliton swept around right end for eight yards and on the next play, Gleason plowed through center for the tying points. Another right end run by "Cully" Culliton added the extra point, and Adams took the lead 7 to 6.

Adams Scores Again

A few minutes later the Gold Costers again struck back when Hurley snagged a Deacon pass and legged it to the Kirkland 10 yard marker. From there Gleason drove to the 4 yard line, and Muldoon crashed center to score.

On the adjoining field, Dudley finally hit its stride and had a field day running wild over Leverett, 26 to 0. The Bunnies, minus their left end and center, were hard-pressed and had little to offer in defense.
