TRACKMEN TRAVEL FOR TUFTS MEET

Informal Event Replaces Cancelled K. of C. Affair

By Dan H. Fenn jr.

Filling in for the cancelled Knights of Columbus meet, which was scheduled for Boston Garden during January, the Varsity and Freshman track teams will trek to Tufts tomorrow for another informal battle with the Jumbos. As in the previous skirmish with the men from Medford, held December 13 in Briggs Cage, no times will be released, and no scores will be compiled.

The loss of Doug Piruie, who joins the country's armed forces in February, will hurt the team, but according to Coach Jaakko Mikkola, "those who are left will have to go all the harder to make up for his absence. They will do their best, which will be very good." "They" refers specifically to Moe Young, Bill Trainor, Eli Berman, who will fill in for Pirnie in the dashes.

The event for the Varsity tomorrow will be the same as for the triangular Harvard-Yale-Princeton meet, and the dual affairs with Yale and Dartmouth, while the Yardlings will run through the usual Freshman indoor program. The only other meet scheduled to take the place of the K. of C. affair is a practice one with Northeastern in Briggs Cage on Saturday, January 31.

Against Tufts in the first meet, the Varsity and Freshmen together copped 21 firsts and a large number of seconds and thirds. The Varsity took firsts in all the field events except for the broad jump, and walked off with clean sweeps in the shotput, hammer throw, and polo vault.
