SOPHOMORE SKATERS NABBED BY POLICE END UP IN JAIL

Following up warnings about the ice on the Charles, Cambridge police decided that actions speak louder than words. As George W. Hibbert '43 and Frank V. Snyder '43 were relaxing from the midyear tedium with a bit of skating, an impressive group of officers bore down on the South bank.

Seeking privacy, the sophomores decided to try the ice on the North bank only to find an unappreciated audience of uniform men there too. Soon the weak ice was cracking under the weight of several venturesome but unstable lawmen as the culprits executed a few elusive maneuvers.

The arm of the law was too long and before one could say "danger, thin ice" the boys were enjoying a police escort to the local headquarters. The thrill began to drag after several hours as cellmates.

Pleas for bail seemed futile, but sympathetic friends promised to bring books for midyear preparation. Cursing everything concerned with skates and ice, Snyder and Hibbert were contemplating a "break" when an unidentified blonde freed them.
