Special tours and exhibits have been arranged by the University to accommodate an expected 5,000 visitors from the American Legion Convention this week.
The Stadium today will be the scene of the all-day competition of the Legion fife and drum corps, from 7 o'clock until almost midnight. Seating arrangements have been prepared for 40,000 spectators. Harvard undergraduates will serve as ticket-takers and ushers.
Tonight Harvard will be represented at the Legion's Opening Patriotic Service at the Charles River Esplanade, by Mr. Jerome D. Greene, Secretary to the Corporation and of the Board of Overseers.
Hourly tours of the Yard will be available each afternoon except Tuesday from 1 to 5 o'clock, free of charge, under the direction of the regular student guide corps. The tours will start on the hour at Phillips Brooks House.
The tours will visit the historic buildings in the Yard and also the Memorial Church built by alumni contributions in memory of the 373 Harvard men who died in the World War.
The visitors will also be invited to inspect special exhibits in the University Library, showing various aspects of the First World War as it is related to the current War abroad. Included in the displays will be posters, personal papers, soldiers' letters, trench publications, mementoes of the German occupation of Belgium in the last war, photographs, administrative documents and papers, news communiques, and various types of propaganda materials. The exhibits were arranged from the large Harvard files of historical materials.
