In its latest meeting, the Committee on the Regulation of Athletic Sports approved the award of 145 insignia to participants in spring sports but rejected the recommendation submitted by the Undergraduate Athletic Council that major letters be awarded to any member of the swimming team who has participated twice in a Yale meet without placing.
The Committee announced the award of a major H in Minor Colors to Captain Ace Cordingley and Bob Graves of the golf team, Norman Blotner, Jim Doughty, Ben Ferris, Captain Gordy Halstead, Dick Lewis, Ben Wilcox, and Holland Willard of the lacrosse team, Warwick Stabler of the polo team, and Captain Dave Burt, Langdon Gilkey, Chester Legg, Jack Palfrey, and Jack Stewart of the tennis team, all of whom have played on their respective Varsity teams for three years.
The Committee voted the award of a Minor H in golf to Donald R. Elbel '41 who did not play against Yale but who was one of the four men to win the New England Intercollegiate Golf Championship for Harvard. The Committee also voted the award of minor numerals in lacrosse to Roger B. Hilson '43 and William Sharpe, Jr. '43 who were unable to play in the Freshman lacrosse game against Yale because of injuries.
