Gifts to the University Library of more than $10,000 and hundreds of volumes have been received during the past year from the "Friends of the Harvard Library," one of the largest organizations of its kind in the country, library officials announced yesterday.
These gifts are the most valuable received from the Friends since 1929, Philip Hofer '21, executive secretary of the society, stated. The money donations have been used to buy many valuable books, more than 1,200 photographs, and more than 1,000 autograph letters.
Among important books received were a collection of proclamations related to the Spanish Armada, purchased specially and presented by Thomas W. Lamont '92, of New York.
