Kirkland House came up from behind in the second day of the inter-House track meet yesterday afternoon, piling up the surprising total of 62% points to capture first honors. After Monday's opening heats, Lowell had stepped into the lead will 38 points but was passed by the Deacons, who amassed 35 points on the second day to win the meet.
Individual star of the tournament was Dick pester of the Puritan team, who took first place in the discus throw, fifth in the javelin, and set a new House record in putting the 12-pound shot 49 feet 10 1/4 inches.
Also yesterday afternoon were the qualifying races for second House crews, which were held over the Henley distance of the one mile and five-sixteenths. In the first heat Kirkland House won Leverett next, and Adams third; in the second, Eliot, Lowell, and Winthrop finished in that order.
Rowing today at 5 o'clock in the finals for second House eights will be Kirkland, Eliot, Leverett and Lowell. Half an hour later are scheduled the finals for first House crews. Eliot is the favorite, while Leverett, Adams and Kirkland are the other finalists. HOUSE TRACK SCORES
