SMITH GIRLS MUSTN'T PLAY BALL WITH ALL-MALE TEAMS

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Undergraduates who have been hoping to spend their spring picnics at Northampton proving to the Smith girls how much better the male of the species can play the national game are doomed to disappointment, it was learned yesterday.

The ladies from the Amherst Annex are permitted to go on as many picnics as they wish and they are allowed and even urged to amuse themselves by playing baseball with their male guests.

However--and on this point the Dean's Office has put its foot down-- when they do play the teams must be divided so that each contains half boys and half girls. If the nines were not divided into boys vs. girls, Smith College would be guilty of the heinous crime of indulging in intercollegiate athletics with a men's institution.
