Ex-Mayor Russell Urges Students Go Into Politics

Disappointed At Undergraduate Disinterest In Campaigns

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Deploring the fact that undergraduates take so little interest in Cambridge politics, ex-Mayor Richard M. Russell '14 claimed in an interview yesterday that the only really interested portion of Harvard College is a group of younger members of the faculty.

"There is infinite opportunity for students to gain practical experience in government right here in Cambridge," he said. "For example, undergraduates can become campaign workers and receive an introduction to some of the hard knocks of politics.

Urging students to go into politics themselves or at least take a genuine interest in them, Russell pointed out that there are always new opportunities for young college men with practical points of view.

Being mayor of Cambridge is definitely in his blood since both his father and grandfather held the honor before him. A United States Representative for two years, he rates a congressional seat as the ideal political job.
