8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
Michael A. Sullivan's abortive attempt to ban the performance of "The Fall of the City" and "Waiting for Lefty" in Sanders Theatre last Friday night was the pay-off on a publicity stunt which nearly backfired on the Student Union.
It was revealed yesterday that it was a publicity-wise H.S.U. member who called up Mickey the Dude and anonymously tipped him off that "The Student Union is going to put on a red propaganda play on Good Friday."
Certain that if Mike accepted the implied challenge it would give the plays free advertising, and positive that there was no way for him to stop the plays, the Student Union settled back to await developments.
Mickey Has Goods
But when Mickey showed up, backed by four cops and a forgotten statute, the boys grew panicky. While 500 people milled around impatiently, Alan Gottlieb '41, H.S.U. president, called up Jerome D. Greene '96, secretary to the Corporation, to enlist his aid in getting the required license.
Greene's first reaction was, "Why don't you hold the plays over a couple of days until we get this straightened out?"
Now really frightened, Gottlieb finally persuaded Greene to get a verbal license from Mayor Lyons.
