Members of four Federal agencies as well as professors in the University and from nearby colleges will participate in an extensive "Conference on Careers in Government and Community Service," which Phillips Brooks House will conduct here for the first time this year on Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13.
According to a statement by a P.B.H. committee, "The Conference is an attempt to present to college students information about occupations in government and community service: what the occupations are, how to prepare for them, what salary to expect, and what the chances are for continued and advanced employment."
Nathan Straus, administrator of the U. S. Housing Authority, will discuss "The Place of Government Agencies in Community Planning" at the opening session Friday evening.
Carmody, Hodson to Speak
Leading one of the ten round tables which will be held Saturday morning, John M. Carmody, administrator of the Federal Works Agency, and William Hodson LL.B. '16, Commissioner of the Department of Welfare, New York City, will discuss "Vocations in Relief Agencies, Federal, State, and Municipal."
At the same time, Arthur S. Flemming, member of the U. S. Civil Service Commission, will lead another round table on "Careers in State and Federal Civil Service," while Arthur S. Jandrey, director of Personnel of the Tennessee Valley Authority, will preside over a conference on "Jobs in Large Scale Federal Agencies: The T.V.A."
At the final session Saturday afternoon, Carmody and Albert Mayer, architect of New York City, will speak on "Social Planning: The Historical Perspective."
