A gift of $233,200 each to Harvard and Yale Universities as part of the $3,500,000 bequest of the Reverend Dr. Alexander G. Mercer of Newport, Rhods Island was provided by the final decree of Superior Court last week.

The bequest was split three ways, for college scholarships in public school graduates, for hospitals, and for the Protestant Episcopal Church, of which he was a minister.

Other colleges to receive part of the fund were Brown, the University of Pennsylvania, and Princeton, $116,500 apiece; and Franklin and Marshal, Kenyon, Hobart, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Bowdoln, $70,000 apiece.

The money for hospitals was divided between the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.

The announcement of the final decree of the court was made by A. Mercer Biddle of Philadelphia. Mercer was rector of the Trinity Church in New port. The original draft of the will was made in 1875.
