Student Group Forms Committee Against Any Military Intervention

Feeling that they have the support of the majority of Harvard students, a group of undergraduates and graduate students have formed the Harvard Committee Against Military Intervention to help keep the country out of war.

"Such an organization has become necessary because, although there are other groups on the campus that whole-heartedly endorse the non-interventionist position, their stand on other issues makes it difficult for them to rally the full support of the student body around this major issue," the group stated.

It is hoped that the group will provide a common ground for discussion by those of varying opinions on the best method of keeping America at peace.

The main purpose of the Committee is to combat the pro-war forces that are trying to convince the American public that either we must fight Germany or submit to her politicaly, economically, and spiritually. In a series of public meetings, sponsored by the newly-formed Committee, competent men in the fields of politics, economics, science, and education will present alternate views and solutions.

"Since, contrary to the assertions of the Committee for Militant Aid to Britain, there is every reason to believe that America is not now at war, it is incumbent upon us to consider the possibility of remaining at peace," the Committee commented.

Sponsors of the new organization include John P. Bunker '42, David K. Eichler 1G, Alan Gottlieb '41, Paul C. Hoover 2G, Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. 2L, Langdon P. Marvin, Jr, '41, Robert J.M. Matteson 2G, Samuel Stratton 3G, Quentin Roosevelt '41, Thomas Lacy 2nd '41, William Hodson '42, H. Whitney Dodge '41, Welles Stabler '41, Kenneth Young 1G, Charles Young '44, Tudor Gardiner 1L, and Joseph P. Lyford '41.

Among other distinguished men the Committee is trying to get as a speaker Joseph P. Kennedy, until recently United States Ambassador to England. Mr. Kennedy is now devoting his efforts to "help the President keep America out of war."
