CONCORD, N. H. The opening of several new ski ledges in New Hampshire has been pointed in by the State Planning and Development commission as an indication of continued growth of the winter vacation business and the attention given to the comfort of skiers and other recreational visitors.

A chalet-type hostelry has been added to the facilities of Franco. It is operated by Hans Thorner, who in recent winters has conducted a ski school at Pinkham Notch. Skiers will be in forested to know that Ted Hunter, former Dartmouth and Olympic team skier who is now a student of architecture, furnished the clever plans to transform of a large house into a pleasing replies of Swiss chalet with a huge fireplace, bedroom balconies, and other typical Alpine Features. Cannon Mountain skiers can run right into the Thorner House yard by way of the Coppormine or Tucker Brook ski trails.

On a high hilltop in Sanbornton, not far from Laconia, is the Steele Hill Farm Inn, a newly remodeled farmhouse commanding a splendid view of mountains and lakes.

North Conway

At North Conway a new and attractive building, a chalet-type ski barracks has been erected on the site of the Sunset inn main building which was destroyed by fire last June. This is part of the Eastern Slope Inn set-up.

At Plymouth is Tobey's motor court with connected series of apartments, equipped for cooking, and one-car garages. Opened late last summer, this is said to be the first establishment of the kind in this part of the country.

CENTER OSSIPEE, N. H. --Open downhill ski races, for both men and women, are to be held every Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the two Ossipee slopes just off Route 16. This is one of the innovations announced by the Ossipee. Sports Development association which is under the management of Phil Stevens.

A gold medal will go to the winning woman each week, and a silver medal to the winning man.

The holder of the lucky number each week will receive a free season ticket for the 1,350-foot ski tow, the award to be made between 3 and 4 o'clock each Sunday.

Following the great success of last year's Ossipee winter carnival, dates for the carnival this season have been set for the February 1st and 2nd weekend. Sialom, downhill, and other events are to be announced for the outdoor program, and a big dance at the Ossipee Y. M. C. A. hall will feature the usual crowning of the carnival queen.

Taking advantage of the early snow, the association opened its season last Saturday (Dec. 7.). Many slope and parking improvements have been made.
