The Junior Varsity football team hit the victory trail for the first time this year when they defeated the Northwestern Freshmen at Soldiers Field yesterday by a decisive 20-to-6 margin.
Minus the services of their star kicker, Hank Vander Eb, who has gone to Pennsylvania to strengthen the Varsity's point-after-touchdown department, the Jayvees realized their potentialities today, with the result that victory was never in doubt.
Greely Summers Stars
Greely Summers, Harvard's punting tailback, led the attack by scoring two touchdowns and two conversions himself. Gus Bigwood made Harvard's other score on a sensational 80-yard gallop to the end zone. Jack Sweeny carried over for Northeastern's lone tally in the final period.
The Crimson started off impressively in the first period by climaxing a 60-yard march with a touchdown. Summers bucked over to make the score, but failed to follow with the conversion, although he made good his placements after the second and third scores.
Northeastern managed to stage off Harvard threats in the second quarter, but in the third the Jayvees clicked again when Summers made a beautiful coffin-corner kick. A bad Northeastern return enabled Harvard to take possession on the enemy twenty-yard stripe, and after a series of short plays, Summers scored again and made good his conversion.
Huskies Score in Third
Early in the final period the visitors took advantage of a Harvard misplay and tallied. A Northeastern punt was fumbled by the Crimson deep in its own territory, and in three plays Sweeny had scored, although the attempt at conversion was foiled.
