Nine Stoughton Scholarships Awarded to Undergraduates

Students from Dorchester and Milton Receive Awards Established in 1701

Nine undergraduates from Dorchester and Milton have been awarded Stoughton scholarships under one of the oldest foundations at the University, established in 1701 by Lieutenant Governor William Stoughton, Class of 1650.

The scholarships are awarded on the basis of high scholarship to any student in the University, with preference going first to students from Dorchester. The recipients this year are: Stanley Brooks '44, of Milton; and Joel Cohen '43, Robert E. Desautels '44, Philip Feldman '43, Sanford J. Freedman '43, Daniel Gorenstein '44, Melvin Pollard '41, Norman M. Wallack '42, and Preston W. Smith, Jr. '43, of Dorchester.
