Man Who Managed Clients for High-End Cambridge Brothel Network Pleads Guilty
Stock in Harvard Football Inc, rose sharply yesterday afternoon as Coach Dick Harlow drove his charges through what he termed the "best scrimmage" of the year in preparation for Saturday's season-opener with a small but potent Amherst eleven.
Half an hour of contact work was combined with a session of passing, kicking under pressure and covering after punts in which the red-jerseyed first string squad, bolstered by the promotion of men from the ranks of the White Shirts, seemed almost in mid-season form.
The new additions hoist the Varsity total to 30 players with six more to be added by game-time Saturday. They include George Haydock and Jack Morgan, ends; Tom O'Loughlin, tackle; Jim Aldrich, guard; Ted Lyman, center; and Dave Goldthwaite, and Red Townsend, blocking backs.
Captain Joe Gardella sparked the "A" squad to a two-touchdown win over the "C" team until he was forced out with a minor bump in the ribs. At the same time Chief Boston's first string Yardling aggregation battled it out with the "B" eleven led by Morpheus Franny Lee and Mort Waldstein and the second Freshmen took on the "D" team. It was the first time that the Varsity and Freshman squads have come in contact with each other this season.
Koufman, Gardiner Sparkie
Joe Koufman at right guard and Tom Gardiner at right tackle drew special commendation from coach Harlow for their driving line play, as did Vern Miller, who played with the "B" eleven yesterday. Two men, Chub Peabody and Don McNicol, were given respite from the contact work to rest them for Saturday. Jim Aldrich and Cliff Helman filled in.
The Lord Jeffs will dress 54 men for Saturday's tussle with two full teams arriving Friday afternoon to work out in the stadium. Bob Blood, the Tom Thumb Harmon of the East, who weighs only 165 pounds, should stand out for the visitors.
