147 Juniors and Sophomores and 507 Freshmen will receive today notices of acceptances to the various Houses, 33 more than were admitted in the first assignment last year. 1001 undergraduates applied for rooms.

In accordance with recent recommendations of the Student Council, the Masters have reduced the number of graduate students for whom rooms are reserved in the Houses and have increased the preference given to upperclassmen.

59 More Upperclassmen This Year

These changes have made it possible to give rooms to 59 more upperclassmen than in the corresponding assignment a year ago, and the number of Juniors and Sophomores who applications were unsuccessful has been reduced from 99 last spring to 70 this year.

26 less Freshmen will receive acceptance-notices today than did last year, because of the preference for upperclassmen. The number of Yardling applications is almost identical with the figure for the class of 1941. The total of 347 unsuccessful applications is the same as last year.

Associate Members From Waiting List

The Masters have agreed that as an experiment for the year 1939-40, each House will admit 10 to 12 Associate Members who will be give the privileges of the dining hall, common room, library, and extra-curricular activities of that House. Associates will be selected from the waiting lists of those who applied earlier.

The University announced that men desiring to enter Houses as Associates and those who wish to be considered for regular residence in case of vacancies should file such intention at 4 University Hall before May 25. Last year over 100 men from the waiting list obtained rooms in the Houses.

Application for rooms in the college dormitories must be in by May 15, according to be Bursar's office, where such applications are received. It was pointed out that students who have reserved a room in the college dormitories will be allowed to cancel their reservations without charge if they later receive an assignment to a House.
