BOB GRAVES' 141 WINS N.E. GOLF TOURNAMENT

Slender Junior Bob Graves provided the finishing touches of Crimson to the sixth annual New England Intercollegiate golf tournament on the Oakley Country Club course late Saturday afternoon by posting a splendid 70-71--141 to spread-eagle a 32-man field and take the individual crown in a walk.

On Friday the six-man Crimson team of Ace Cordingley, Bob Graves, Captain Jack Barr, Henry Thompson, Watty Dickerman, and Don Elbet competed for the team crown. Scores of the low four men count, and the quartet of Barr, Thompson, Cordingley and Graves turned in a total of 306, good enough for first place.

Amherst was second with 309, and Bowdoin was third with 310. Thompson and Barr led the Hoddermen to the Friday triumph with 73 and 74 respectively. The low 32 men on Friday qualified for Saturday's individual play.

Graves was well down in the qualifying lists, with a 78, but he literally took the stiff Oakley course apart Saturday. Captain Jack Barr was his nearest pursuer, and a distant one at that with a 74-76--150. The nine stroke winning margin which Graves had even surpassed the record of present national amateur champion Willie Turnesa, who reigned over the Eastern Intercollegiate golfers for three years.

Turnesa was never able to overshadow his opposition in the same fashion that Graves did Saturday.
