Earle's Paintings of Indian Dancers Now on Exhibition

An exhibit of original paintings of Hopi Indian ceremonial dances, by Edwin Earle, of New York City, will be on view at the Peabody Museum until June 1. While doing the paintings, Earle lived for over a year in the Hopi village of Oraibi, participating in the activities of the natives.

Minute details of color, costume, and pesture, of the Kachinas dances are recorded in the paintings. Kachinas are marked representations of supernatural beings in the ceremonies of the Hopl Figures prominent is "Winter Solstice", "Bean Planting", and the "Home Dance", the three major ceremonies of the year are shows.
