The New England Intercollegiate golf tournament gets under way this afternoon at the Oakley Country Club with an 18 hole qualifying round for a nine-man Harvard delegation. The play this afternoon decides the team title, for which the Crimson linksmen are rated as important contenders.
Each college entering is allowed to send six men, the lowest four of which are used to make the team total. The regular Crimson six-man team of Ace Cordingley, Bob Graves, Jack Barr, Henry Thompson, Watty Dickerman, and Don Elbel are playing. In addition, any number of men may enter from each college to compete for individual honors.
The low 32 men for today's round qualify for 36 holes of play tomorrow to determine the individual winner.
