Lacrosse Team takes Tufts 10-0 in Home Season Opener

Just before yesterday's downpour the Varsity lacrosse team inflicted on Tufts a 10-0 shutout at the Business School Field, while the Freshman team, in their first taste of competition, lost to the Tufts cubs.

In the words of Coach Skip Stahley, "they all played well." Skip was particularly pleased by the showing of the defense, who again and again broke up the Jumbo drives, giving them very few shots at the Crimson goal.

By the end of the first half eight goals had been chalked up and in the second a ten composed chiefly of subs accounted for the additional two tallies.

Last night Skip declared, "We're not as good as two years ago when we won the New England championship but you can never tell what will happen."

The Yardlings, with Johnnie Witherspoon, former Harvard and All-American star as coach, have been working outdoors since vacation and are slowly getting organized. The Freshman defense held quite consistently during the match, but the attack was somewhat wavering and ill-tinied. Witherspoon's men face one of the hardest schedules in recent years and are bonding every effort to whip into shape as soon as possible.
